Get free trees for your parkway or home. Jacaranda trees are one option on CityPlants.org.

We purchased our first home last March in the West San Fernando Valley and at the time of purchase, new we would have to cut down I’m the big trees lined up next to our home. These trees were nice and tall and provided privacy, beauty, and most importantly shade to keep the house cooler in the warmer summer months.

After cutting them down, my husband and I discussed possible options with our gardener and consulted Google. I had heard that Los Angeles County residents could receive free trees for their residence and the parkway.

I found on CityPlants.org you could order up to 7 trees for your home and for FREE! My experience that I’m sharing today was 100% positive. What I liked was the ease of figuring out what tree would work best. There are easy links on the website that take you to discover more about the tree and you can better determine if it will work for you.

Once you’ve done your research and explored your tree options, you can then access their online application. The application will have an aerial view of your property from Google maps where you will plot out the proposed trees on your property. Once you’re done, the website says it will be a 2-6 weeks process.

Thankfully, ours was only a 2 day process. The trees were delivery by City Plants today along with stakes and instructions. Now it’s time to plant!

Another free resource is free mulch offered in 11 locations throughout Los Angeles. It’s offered through LA Sanitation & Environment (LASAN). It’s available to all residents of the city and there is an option for free home delivery as well. The home delivery is currently unavailable most likely due to Covid-19 and limited services. Find the locations here in this flyer.

And here they are once we planted them.

Let me know in the comments if this was helpful for you. Did you access the resources for your free trees? What was your experience?
